Terms of Business

Please ensure that you have read and understood the Terms and Conditions below before commencing any lessons with your instructor.

Driving Licence

    a) Clients MUST personally ensure that they are the holder of a valid, current driving licence – which must be produced at the first lesson. The picture on your photo card licence expires after 10 years so please ensure your licence is up to date.

    b) Clients MUST inform me if they receive any endorsements on their licence during the time they are receiving tuition, including any short period disqualifications.

    c) Clients MUST inform me of any additional support needs or medical conditions that may affect their ability to learn to drive.

    d) Clients MUST be able to read a car number plate at the required distance of 20.5 metres with glasses or contact lenses if normally worn. If these are required, then you must wear them at ALL times when driving.

Client Wellbeing

    a) In the interest of safety and comfort, clients are advised to wear suitable footwear and comfortable clothing which does not restrict movement.

    b) If I suspect that the clients’ ability to drive is impaired through drink or drugs prescription or otherwise, then the lesson will be terminated, and the fee forfeited.

Tuition Fees

    a) Tuition fees will be agreed prior to the commencement of the lessons and are payable in full by either cash or cheque at the end of each lesson
    b) When tuition fees are required to be paid by BACS, the payment MUST be made prior to the start of the lesson.

Cancellation of Lessons - Client

    a) At least 24 hour’s notice (one full day) must be given by the client of any postponement or cancellation of any lesson. Late cancellations WILL be charged in full.

    b) The client is advised to be punctual for the lesson appointment and late arrivals will be charged in full.

Cancellation of Lesson – Instructor

    a) If by reason of vehicle failure or other emergency a lesson must be postponed at short notice, an alternative appointment will be made with mutual consent. I cannot be held responsible for expenses incurred by the client for cancellations under such circumstances.

    b) Driving tests take priority over lessons, therefore, pre-booked lessons may have to be rearranged if I receive short notice of a driving test appointment.

    c) Except as provided in a) above I will endeavour to give notice of cancellation of a lesson within the same time limit as I impose upon a client.

The Driving Test

    a) I will advise the appropriate time to make an application for the practical driving test. The advice will be based on the clients’ progress and does NOT imply that the necessary standard has been reached OR that it will for certain be reached by the appointed test date. I will not hesitate to advise, where necessary, the postponement of the test. This condition is intended to save the client expense, unnecessary failure and consequent wait for a future test appointment. I will endeavour to offer this advice within the cancellation period levied by DVSA to avoid loss of test fee.

    b) The client is responsible for booking their practical driving test. This will be done after consultation with me in order that a mutual time and date can be agreed. Confirmation of the test booking must be shown to me on the next lesson.

    c) I reserve the right to withhold the use of the training vehicle for the test or a lesson, if in my opinion the client is:

      1) Not at driving test pass standard
      2) Medically unfit (including eyesight)
      3) Under the influence of drugs or alcohol
      4) Suspect to be not properly licenced to drive
      5) Consistently fails to keep or is late for appointments
      6) Falls into arrears over payment
      7) If for any other reason, I consider the client to be unsafe to handle a motor vehicle

    d) Clients may be accompanied on test by a senior examiner, whose job is to ensure that official standards of testing are observed by examiners.

    e) Clients are responsible for being in possession of the necessary documents when attending for a test. I will advise at the time. Failure to do so will result in your test being cancelled and your test fee forfeited.

    f) The client may be notified directly by DVSA if your practical test has been cancelled due to illness or adverse weather for example. Where this occurs then an alternative date will be offered. Please advise your instructor of any such cancellations.

Legal Liability

    a) Clients should be aware that my primary objective is to promote road safety and in doing so, I may have to issue instructions which clients must be prepared to carry out without question.

    b) I will make every effort to train you to the highest standard but can in no way be held liable for any errors you commit whilst driving and not accompanied by me either before or after a test pass.

    c) During an official driving test, the client is in charge of the vehicle and is liable for any fines or charges levied as a result of any motoring offences committed.
